Glenn Bryson M.D.

Doc BrysonOne of the founding members of WIEMS is Doctor Glenn Bryson. Born on Aruba on May 7th 1957, he was raised on St. Maarten.Because he saw the need for pre-hospital medical training on St. Maarten he was instrumental in founding WIEMS in 1992. "Doc" as he is affectionately called, was the Medical director of WIEMS until 2012, when he moved with his wife, Elka Bryson, to Curacao. Not only was he our Medical Director, he was also the main instructor for many years, and even functioned as President for several years. Today he is still an honorary member, and assists whenever he can.

 

Mrs. Maria Chemont RN, EMT-Basic, BLS instructor

maria chemontMrs. Maria Campbell Chemont volunteered with the Red Cross chapter SXM for 16 years (1977 -1991). She joined WIEMS in 1992, and has been our President since 2000. She was born on St. Maarten on December 25th 1954. Maria worked in the Ambulance Service for 25 years, and is presently working as a youth Health Care Nurse at the Ministry of Health. Maria is a member of the Business and Professional Women (BPW), and a motivational speaker. She was decorated by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in 2008 as member of the House of Orange. Her hobbies are reading, meeting people and doing volunteer work.

 

Joanna Rijnboutt, B-Ed. EMS instructor

joanna rijnbouttAns (Joanna) Rijnboutt, a teacher by profession, joined WIEMS in 1993. Becoming a First Responder at school, she was very interested in EMS, and started taking over some of the teaching responsibilities of Dr. Bryson. A few years later she became an EMT-Basic, and recently achieved her EMS-instructor 1 certification. She is our Course Coordinator, Board member and Assistant Treasurer. Her hobbies are; reading, drawing and travelling.

 

Luanne W. Murray, EMT

joanna rijnbouttLuanne was born on the island of Aruba, where she attended primary and secondary school. She has 3 children who are attending school/working in the Netherlands. Luanne joined WIEMS in 2012 and is currently our Treasurer. She is employed at the TelEm Group of Companies. Her hobbies are reading and walking.

 

Harrington Perry Simmons, M.D.

joanna rijnbouttDoctor Simmons completed elementary school on the island of Saba. He studied in Sint Maarten, Curacao, and Canada. He received his medical degree (MBBS) in 2002 from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. Dr. Simmons is married to his wife Deborah, and they have 3 children. Dr. Simmons first worked in San Fernando General Hospital & Trinmar Medical Clinic, both in Trinidad. He then worked at the ER of SMMC and as a Control Physician at SZV, both on St. MaartenHe is the Medical Director for WIEMS, and is practicing as a GP in his clinic in Cole Bay.

 

Mae West, EMT, BLS instructor

joanna rijnbouttMae was born in Guyana where she attended primary and secondary school. After school she joined the Guyana Police Force. She moved to St. Maarten in 2003, where she now works at Sheriff Security Force. She joined WIEMS in 2009 after completing her EMT training. She is a very valued member of the instructor team.

 

Merlin Aventurin, EMS instructor

joanna rijnbouttMerlin was born on St. Martin on March 25th 1963, and went to the Lionel Connor Primary school. He completed secondary school at Milton Peters College. Merlin has 6 children and 3 grandchildren. He is married to his wife Dolly. Merlin was Red Cross member from 1978 – 1991. He joined WIEMS in 1992 and now serves as our Field and Operational Manager.
